Macleod Weightlifting Club (MWC) is an affiliated Victorian Weightlifting Association (VWA) club. We are primarily a recreational based club, however we do cater for all levels and abilities. We aim to introduce new people to the sport of weightlifting through learning, practicing and improving their weightlifting skills. These skills include a range of accessory lifts and movements to help perform the key movements of Snatch and Clean & Jerk.

Through our affiliation members have the chance to compete against others at Victorian Weightlifting Association Events around the state.

Weightlifting Classes

We currently have 3 weightlifting classes available on our group fitness timetable, free for all members!

The days and times of the classes are;

  • Wednesday 6:00am
  • Friday 6:00am

About Weightlifting

Weightlifting, also commonly known as Olympic Weightlifting is a sport consisting of two main lifts.

Snatch: The barbell is moved from the floor to overhead in a single movement.

Clean and Jerk: The barbell is first moved from the floor to the shoulders (the clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk).

In competition, each weightlifter has three attempts in each the snatch and clean & jerk. The best weight of each lift is added to create the weightlifter's total, and the best total wins.
